Like a rain shower, my engagement with this practice started small and built from there. From a little chuckle, my laughter grew and grew until I was doubled over in mirth. Then it gently subsided and I went into meditation, filled with joy.
As I meditated, I heard a gentle patter on my windowpanes. It was raining, just a little at first; then came sounds of thunder in the distance. The thunder came closer and closer, until there was a brilliant spark of lightning and a loud clap of thunder right above me. I felt that the heavens had gotten wind of my laughter and decided to join the party.

So what was I drawn to do with this energy? I found a story I hadn’t read before on the website, and I listened to it as I enthusiastically pedaled on our exercise machine. Giving myself to hooting aloud and cackling, I felt invigorated from my solar plexus right up to my jaw and mouth. I could envision the “gemstones” along my merudanda light up as the prana shakti touched them! And then I felt tranquil as I heard the description of the rainfall.
Reflecting on my experience, I recognize that in “Awake with Prana” Gurumayi has quenched an aching thirst I wasn’t aware I had. My dry and parched inner landscape has received a beautiful drenching of grace!

Just when the passage from the Vijnana Bhairava was shared about “the joy one experiences upon meeting a long-lost friend,” I heard a scratch, scratch at my door. When I opened it, there stood my sweet and very funny kitty, who had come to visit me! I laughed upon seeing her—my old sweet friend! I felt the prana shakti through every part of my body! I lifted my arms to welcome the sun and my darling kitty watched while calmly purring.
I had been praying for guidance on how to share yoga with my daughter. I truly feel the guidance in “Awake with Prana” is heaven-sent and I now look forward to sharing this joyful and timely teaching with her.

As I moved through the practice, I found it hard to keep my eyes open, so I just let everything happen naturally. Being close to the envisioned water makes me shiver with delight, and I feel happiness in my feet, my knees, and my legs! The laughter does not vocalize itself; instead, it settles at the back of my throat, warm and sweet. My face feels as if it were the sun, beaming with joy. I feel a ripple across my chest as the laughter inside comes out as a giggle, just as I would experience when meeting a friend.
This has been a wonderful journey of discovery once again.

When I stopped laughing, the joy and the light that the laughter had spread within me continued to make my cells vibrate. When I felt my prana flowing through my body, I felt cleansed, pure, and happy, and wonderful thoughts arose in my mind.
This morning, just as I had started to follow the practice, a gentle drizzle began to envelop the landscape. So when I came to the words, “The rain starts as a drizzle,“ I felt in harmony with the universe and the Guru’s presence filled my heart.
As the sun gently lights up the land, with contentment, I’m ready to enjoy my day.

I felt more connected to myself after the increasing momentum of my laughter, a brief and wonderful time spent playing in the rain, and allowing the sun’s rays to reinvigorate me.
