I imagine Shiva casting his glance upon me, and I feel the best of all elixirs flowing inside me.

By meditating on Shiva, by repeating his name, by singing the Shiva Arati in the early morning, I am filled with wonder.

This verse is a strong reminder to me to stay focused on the deepest gift of Lord Shiva—the company of the inner Self.

I’m aware that many kinds of gifts come and go in my life, and I am grateful to God, and to the Guru, for these blessings. I recognize that they represent God’s abundant care for me—and that even gifts can be distracting if I allow them to be.

On Mahashivaratri and always, I long to remember that I am happiest when I connect with the love, grace, and sweetness of the Lord as my very own compassionate, accepting Self.
