I recited this verse and then began to meditate on it. As I focused on the steady flow of my breath in and out, I began to hear the gentle sound of waves breaking on an ocean shore. As I listened, I found my breath in harmony with the waves taking me to a place of deep peace. The mantra Hamsa arose spontaneously within me. In my mind’s eye I saw images of Lord Shiva’s divine form, and I heard these words from Kabir’s beautiful poem: "So’ham, Soham, keeps arising within me. My soul has been freed on the other shore." For the first time I understood that Lord Shiva and I are one.

When I chant Shri Shiva Mahimna Stotram , the beauty of verse 32 always fills me with delight. When I saw this verse on the Siddha Yoga path website under the heading of "Your Greatness is Unfathomable," I took the opportunity to study it.
I reflected on the meaning of the verse and chanted the Sanskrit words three times. Then I closed my eyes. I had the sensation that my mind was being stretched out toward infinity, toward the space beyond thought. I felt the vastness of Shiva, the vastness of the Self. Studying this verse is a wonderful way for me to prepare for Mahashivaratri!

Reading these divine words puts me in touch with something vast and eternal in myself. I understood that I don’t have to look anywhere but within my inner Self to reach the divine vision and see it reflected everywhere.
