I have always loved the form of the dancing Shiva, especially when I see it in the photos of Shree Muktananda Ashram. It is perfect to have it as the first image in the selection of photos of the SYDA Foundation staff and visiting sevites. Guruseva seems to me like an expression of the dance of Shiva. Everything is experienced within the sevite—creation and inspiration, blossoming, and experiencing the ultimate vision of the Guru’s grace. We come to the Guru within and without, and the ring of God’s fire consumes the old. What is left is the breath of eternal light and love.

What a beautiful image of the two sevites standing together over the cooking pots in the Ashram kitchen. I’m struck by the circles in the photo—one rounded pot cooking inside the other. The water in the larger pot allows the contents of the smaller pot to cook gently. In much the same way, the man surrounds the boy with protection and guidance. The water bubbles as it boils, and the sevites laugh.

I love the photo that shows the boy and the sevite who is guiding his drumming. What we see of the drum teacher is mostly his hand that is gently poised. I feel the connection that exists between the student and teacher. This photo shows me that true service is so natural it’s practically invisible, like a lovely tree that naturally gives shade.
