This morning, as I reflected on the meaning of verse 9, “The Guru is not different from the conscious Self,” I became aware that I was simply aware—aware of what was going on both inside and outside. There was no judgment, attachment, aversion, or emotional responses. I was free.

“The Guru is not different from the conscious Self.” With the Guru at my heart’s core, I can perceive unity in diversity. I can experience the same love for all. I am able to offer my daily routines like cooking and studying to the highest Self and experience deep contentment. Without the Guru in my life, all these worldly things would have been only worldly.
As I apply Gurumayi’s Message for this year, my focus has shifted inside, even as I relate to and carry out my responsibilities in the outer world.
I am eternally thankful for having a Siddha Guru, Gurumayi!

Shri Guru Gita, verses 23 and 39, fulfilled in my life again and again.
As I apply Gurumayi’s teachings in my life, I am, without fail, led from dark interpretations toward harmonious resolutions.
Gurumayi’s grace and teachings have forever changed the way I see and experience this world.

To help me understand the meaning of verse 9, I recited the Sanskrit text three times, read the English translation, and then closed my eyes for reflection: “The Guru is not different from the conscious Self.” Immediately my awareness was drawn inside, and I experienced the spiraling inner energy that I identify as the Guru’s
shakti, which is the energy of my own Self, awakened by the Guru’s grace.
Then, as I reflected on the last part of the verse, I wondered, for someone like me who has received
shaktipat from my Guru, what does it mean “to make an effort to seek him.” I realized that seeking the Guru is an ongoing process; studying and practicing the Guru’s teachings and turning inside for inner guidance are ways that I make an effort to seek the Guru, to live my life in tune with the Guru’s
shakti, with my highest Self.
