Jhari Lagai Mahaliya Gagana Gheheray

Gurumayi Chidvilasanada composed the melody of this bhajan, written by the poet-saint Dharmadas, in the rain-bestowing Megh Malhar raga. Listen to Gurumayi sing as you envision blessings of rain for Australia.

This bhajan fills me with the wish to rest my head at the divine lotus feet of my Shri Sadguru and to offer guruseva and gurubhakti always.

When I played this bhajan yesterday, light rain started to fall, even though no rain had been predicted. It rained for a few hours! The agitation I had felt in my mind was gone, and outside the air was fresh and cool. When I played this bhajan again this morning, light rain started to fall again.

As I recited Sri Guru Gita for Australia, I envisioned Australia within my being.  Afterwards, I listened to this bhajan and then I meditated. I visualized the clouds gathering within my own sahasrar. Within my head, the rain fell. Within me, the rain fell on Australia.

I became aware that I am doing my sadhana not only for myself, but for the upliftment of the world. This is motivating me even more to give myself to the Siddha Yoga teachings and practices.

Listening to Gurumayi singing this bhajan, I am crying in gratitude for all she has done to send blessings and rain to us here in Australia. I feel we are letting our grief for the parched land, grass, and trees flow in the form of tears, and these tears are transmuting into blessings of rain for the earth.

It was wonderful to participate in the live stream Shri Guru Gita and the next day to see images on television of gentle rain falling on so many fire- affected towns of New South Wales and Victoria.

I offer my gratitude to Gurumayi and the global sangham, for the purity and love of all the special events held to bless us here in Australia and bring relief to the land, animals, and all those affected by the fires. May we continue to experience an abundance of inner and outer rain.

This morning I listened to Gurumayi signing Jhari Lagai Mahaliya Gagana Gheheray for the first time. I wept as this bhajan flowed through my being.  As the bhajan concluded, I realized that I was not just feeling intense sadness for Australia but, more importantly, the moisture of my tears was being offered as a prayer for the land, people, and animals of Australia.

I have just listened to Gurumayi singing this bhajan—and it has started to rain! Not a lot, but these are the first drops we have seen in many weeks! They have appeared against an orange sky full of bushfire smoke.

I am deeply grateful for the gift of this bhajan. To hear Gurumayi’s voice in song at this time is an immense blessing.

The indigenous people of Australia sing to invoke rain. The Elders learn the skill of singing in such a way that the heavens respond.

I am so grateful to be able to join the worldwide Siddha Yoga community in listening to, and giving voice to, the sacred songs of our tradition, supplicating the heavens for gentle, soaking rain.
