Images of Nature I

On the Siddha Yoga path, we acknowledge the presence of the Divine in all of creation—and this divinity is revealed in myriad forms in the natural world. The beauty and wonder we find in nature can inspire us, as seekers, to recognize the beauty within us and everywhere around us.

The Nature Gallery contains photographs taken in the wondrous environs of Shree Muktananda Ashram, where Gurumayi currently resides. The Ashram is located in upstate New York, surrounded by expansive forests and rolling hills, brimming with wildlife. Take your time as you view the gallery. Allow the images to transport you to the serene stillness of the Guru’s abode, and let nature’s splendor connect you to the splendor of your own great heart.

As I meandered slowly and appreciatively through this month’s nature photos, I was reminded of a course I once took in art history—but this was a course in the art of the Creator! Certain photos of the shimmering colors reflected in the waters of Lake Nityananda reminded me of impressionist masterpieces. Others reflected for me the styles of landscape artists and naturalists who take great delight in showing one insect, one bird, one flower, in its God-given perfection. Still other images, whose subtle colors and patterns arrayed themselves with no discernible shapes to attach them to, were works of abstract art. And one exquisite photo of a single reddish-pink flower had the spare esthetic of a Japanese master.

Savoring all this variety among the images reminded me that, for me, one of the most enchanting aspects of the abundance of natural beauty in our precious world is its multifaceted diversity.
