As I viewed this gallery, I reflected on the home seva that I have been offering for the past year. When I began, I was amazed that my longing to be in the Guru’s physical presence dissolved, and I often had the feeling that I was actually offering seva in Shree Muktananda Ashram.

Just as I experience unity in a global satsang, I experience it by offering home seva. I truly believe that offering seva connects me deeply with the Guru and the global sangham. What an amazing, tremendous blessing!

As I studied these images of sevites serving in Shree Muktananda Ashram, I was struck by the experience of stillness and fullness that each image evoked. This surprised me because the tasks being depicted were simple ones—so why did they have this effect on me?

When I reflected further on this experience of stillness and fullness, I realized that each person’s absorption in the action at hand conveyed a stillness—the presence of a tranquil center that was the source of  the action itself.

I recognized gratefully that the practice of seva, for me, is a beautiful dance, an interplay, of stillness and movement. The action arises from the stillness in my heart, and as I become absorbed in seva, the offering of action returns my attention to the still center within.

It’s uplifting and informative for me to see these images of the variety of people offering seva in Shree Muktananda Ashram. Their bodies and faces reflect their focused attention on their different tasks and activities—and the joy they experience as they offer service.  I especially appreciate seeing the Ashram grounds with all the sevites who maintain them with such care and devotion in every season.
